As he turned on the TV, BLAST OFF! The sound of the TV was too loud and it caught Ryan and Lolly jerked off the bed.
"What on earth were you thinking Rafael!" Ryan got up and turned off the TV. Rafael stood rooted to the ground listening to the morning lecture Ryan was drilling into his head. Lolly was agitated and walked out of the room. While they were having breakfast, Lolly steamed off on Ryan.
"You could have just warn him."
"What does it look like I did?"
"You want to wake our neighbours up just because you were mad at Raf?"
"They are not living just a wall away, Lolly. Besides, it is for him to learn how to behave appropriately. What do you do as a Mom? Sit there and watch your boy become imbecile?"
"You adopted him! You take care of it. We didn't even have any agreement to this!"
Rafael overheard about the argument from the bathroom. Mother... Mother who pretended to be all nice to me? She don't care about me at all, does she?
The horn from Ryan's carpool brought the argument to halt. Rafael heard Ryan's heavy footsteps and the door slammed hard. Tears trickled down his cheeks. Lolly stepped in the bathroom and hollered,"Get out! I have to shower. Go get ready for school. Your dad forget to take you along! He forgets everyone! All he care is himself!"
That is not true, Mother. It is just you. He worked hard to get things to work out for you...
Rafael dragged himself out of the bathroom. Packed his bag and left for school early. While Lolly gussy up in the bathroom, all that filled her mind was rage. Maybe I can get Kayer to come over. He always make me feel better.
It was 2 in the afternoon. Ryan ended his work shift. He head home and suddenly halt at the stairs. Maybe I should do another shift of lecture. She is still in the house. Argh! Ryan head back to the school ground. In school, on the way back to class from toilet, Rafael saw Ryan walking down the corridor.
"Dad, where are you going? Exit is that way, in case you've forgotten. Hehe." Rafael tried to make his father smile.
Ryan chuckled and replied,"Not really boy. I think I want to help Mr Kennedy with his classes today. You head home first okay boy."
"Dad, is it ok if I go over to Pency's today? She said she need some help with her homework."
"Sure no problem boy. Enjoy your day! Oh and don't forget to clean the cage. it is your shift today remember?"
"Yeah don't worry about that! See you later tonight! Won't be home late, promise."
Hope you are going to do great with Pency, my boy. Make lots of friends. Not like your looser Dad.
Ryan felt tired and so decided to only help out with one class only. Before he left school, Mdm Alyda from the Department District called up. Ryan went to her office, thinking maybe Rafael had injure himself while cleaning the cage! He entered the office and saw Mdm Alyda smiling widely.
"Please sit down Mr Finomask. I have good news for you."
Ryan grabbed the chair and settled slowly. Adjusting his coat, he questioned,"What is it about Mdm Alyda?"
"Straight to the point, Congratulation, Mr Finomask! Tomorrow, you may take a day off. Celebrate tonight, for your promotion! Starting Wednesday, you are working along my side. Welcome aboard buddy!"
Ryan's mouth gapped. He went speechless. A PROMOTION! A RAISE! ALL THAT FIELD TRIP ON WEEKENDS! Ryan shook Mdm Alyda's hand and thanked her. That is good news to bring home for Rafael and Lolly. Maybe then their relationship would be better. Thursday, Friday day off! That is great!
He head home and realised from far, it is Kayer's car parked on the lot. Ryan turned off his bike engine and pushed it slowly to the lot. Now what are they up to? He have been coming here quite frequently. Ryan crept into the house, noticing loud music was playing from the room. The door was shut close. Something is not right. Ryan swift open the door and there they were on the bed. Ryan felt Lolly was a disgrace with what they were doing. Feeling extremely upset, Ryan tore them apart.
"What the hell is this?"
Without even the slightest shame from Lolly, she answered,"What is this? You asking me? You haven't been passionate at all with me ever since I moved in! Even when we were on the same bed, you don't seem to care!"
Kayer just stood there watching the argument went wild.
"With him! With him? You could have told me! What the hell am I around for?"
"You? What do you care about? Martial arts! Your stupid job as a teacher! Oh set good role and example for the kids. You can't even manage your own family! You spend time with Rafael and you don't even care about me. Don't think I don't know what you've been up to with that bitch in China!"
"Don't call her that! She have nothing to do in this! All this while I trusted you. And you were cheating on me?! WITH HIM?!"
Kayer smirked and went up to Ryan," You know, I think you are the one who needed a lesson in school. To learn how to manage your time well and give your fiancée what she desire. You have got lot more to learn, Mr Finomask." That is an insult to Ryan. Ryan lifted his fist and gave a good punch on Kayer's face.
"Stop!" Lolly pulled Ryan away and pulled Kayer out of the house. They head off to work together, leaving Ryan alone in the house.
"THIS IS ABSURD!" Ryan screamed so hard. He went into his room and played the loud music. He sat on the floor and began to meditate. Calm down, Ryan. Calm down. Soon, he was ready to do a zenoport. He heard the main door went shut and got distracted. Rafael... Ryan continued with the meditation. That night, Lolly came home and slept with Ryan. Ryan woke up with shock in the middle of the night. What is this woman thinking? Ryan turned around to see Lolly's red nose and bagged eyes. She probably cried so hard. Maybe it is really my fault I haven't spend much time with her. Ryan ran his fingers through her hair. He miss Lolly very much.
Lolly was perplexed of Ryan's presence at 9 in the morning. She still haven't know that Ryan had a promotion and day off. Ryan prepared breakfast for the family and sent Rafael to school. Despite Rafael being late for school, Ryan could give him the exceptional reason to be excused from detention. It was unfair but Rafael's friend envy the advantages Rafael gets. Ryan head home and realised Lolly was gone. Probably she was still mad at Ryan. Ryan decided to give her some space.
Ryan spent the day repairing, cleaning, upgrading and browsing through state properties. He spotted the Twinbrook center being the nice place to relax under the moonlight by the crashing waves. He thought to check out the place before purchasing it. He left a note along with money for Rafael to eat out.
The chirping birds, the breeze, the rustling leaves. Definitely a good place to buy out. The stairs down to the walk way, really nice design! He caught sight of Mr and Mrs Tyrebrook. They saw him too and so he waved back at them gleefully. They waved with frightful face and was looking at somewhere of their level. There must be something not right here.Ryan saw them walked away briskly. Definitely something is up!
Ryan started down the stairs, only to find his fiancée, cuddling and mushing with Kayer on the bench. BITCH! I thought you went to work! Ryan pulled Kayer off the bench and decided to beat him to pulp. Ryan pinned Kayer down on the floor. Kayer tried to resist the heavy blow on his face. Lolly was caught off guard by Ryan's sudden appearance.
"Ryan stop! Stop! You are hurting him!" Lolly pulled Kayer away from Ryan. Ryan felt this is the end of everything.
"Right! You think so? And what about this baby!" Lolly pointed at her tummy.
"We have never done anything!"
"Yeah right! Even before the engagement? Running away from your responsibility?!"
Ryan recalled so clearly he have never ended up doing things like that. Never... Then suddenly he recalled the night they were at her house. So they actually did something!
"But I don't recall even doing it! We didn't go that far! You know me well enough! I told you before I don't want to do that before anything! Besides... after we broke up, you were with Kayer! And that was before we got engaged!"
"Probably because you are gay that is why you don't find me desirable! Engaged to me just for a cover up from the school reputation right? I caught you looking at Mr Andy and Mr Esch the other day when I dropped by in school!!"
"You know that baby thing is definitely making you go crazy and desperado. Alright fine! I am not going to break this tie until that baby is born! Then we will see what the trait is! I am willing to put through thousands to know who is the father!"
"BUT! From now on, I am not going to stay with you. I'm moving out and taking Rafael with me." Ryan brought up the decision.
"How can you do this to me, Ryan? I can't be pregnant and living alone! How am I going to manage?"
"Ask Kayer to take care of you. Since he being extremely passionate to you. He probably knows it first than me since you got your day off for maternity leave. I didn't even know about that. You told him but not me. So might as well he be your caretaker!"
Ryan walked away, deafening his ear from Lolly. She chased Ryan up the stairs, trying to reason with him. He got on the bike and just rode off. As soon as he reached the house, he took his laptop and browsed through the houses on sale. While looking through, he called up Rafael to pack his items. Rafael knew things have gotten worst. Rafael just comply to the command silently.
A few moment later, the taxi horned and Lolly just reached the house. Rafael knew it is time to go. Whatever happened, he knew Lolly must have done something to make Ryan - the known to be kind-hearted man - to be extremely angry. Rafael got into the taxi with his items. Ryan walked out of the house and threw the house keys to Lolly. Lolly grabbed Ryan's hand and begged him to stay.
"Let me go Lolly. This is the space that you need. It can only be filled by someone who cares! Transaction has been made. Remember, when that baby is born, everything is over!"
"Ryan please! I am so sorry! I won't do it again! Please, Ryan!"
Ryan snapped her off and shut the taxi door. They head off to the new house. 3 storey house. The rich residence area. Rafael was shocked by the cost of the house. He couldn't believe by how much savings Ryan had done to purchase such a big house! Rafael ran to the backyard to find an extremely big swimming pool.
"Haha Rafael you like it?"
Rafael looked at Ryan in disbelief and answered," Definitely Dad! This is awesome!"
"It is? I was thinking to make the swimming pool smaller. And with that... Add some space for you to be able to practise your other skills? Guitar... arts... develop you just fine. Room enough for your children some day!"
"Eeew Dad! You thought of that?!"
"Haha of course, Son! Some day, you are going to be like me! Think far... I saved you some cost from needing to buy a house. This is already big enough for us!"
Rafael realised Ryan have been doing it all for him. Being so thoughtful all the time. Working extra hard to earn a living. A well-known hero to Twinbrook. A humble teacher and a fierce fire-fighter, he is a great father!
Lying on the bed... Was the ghost of Prancy Tucker. Her body was electrifying. A ghost is sleeping?
"Dad... Is that a g-g-g-ghost?" Rafael whispered terrifyingly to his father.
"Don't be afraid son... I saw the urn by the living room when we entered the house. It is ok. she won't hurt us." Ryan, a brave-trait soul held his son.
"Dad... Probably the previous owner of the house left because she stir chaos! Haven't you heard? The kids in school talked about her! P-p-p-prancy T-t-tucker!"
"Don't be silly. She is a ghost! She can't hurt us! If she does, we will call the ghost busters."
"But I heard from them that she can electrify people!"
"Sshh! Don't be ridiculous, Rafael. Now we go to sleep ok. I promise she won't hurt us even the slightest bit. Tomorrow morning, I will place the urn at the graveyard before going to work."
Rafael took a last look at Prancy Tucker before Ryan closed the door. Rest in peace Prancy. Ryan accompanied Rafael to sleep for the night.
In a few days, you are going to be a big boy, Rafael. In a few days, teenage period will teach you how to grow. Teach you the lesson of life. Different from what you learn in school. Then you would realise that whatever you learned, is completely opposite from what has been done around the town. Grow up well my Son. So prepare yourself for the world.
Ryan Finomask whispered to Rafael in his sleep. Was taught that the unconscious mind would take it straight to the soul.
